What is changing for Canadian schools

Education in Canada is a provincial responsibility, and provinces are moving at different speeds. In 2026 Alberta announced a three-year partnership with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute to develop a framework for AI in schools, Manitoba said it was developing guiding principles, and British Columbia left policy to districts while considering an advisory committee. A survey of 756 Canadian grade 6 to 12 teachers for the Fraser Institute (Leger, November 2025 to January 2026; not a random sample) found that 49% had been given training on using AI for lessons and about 63% had received no training on how to teach students to use AI reasonably.

That is the gap Dan's keynotes address for boards and divisions: what AI is already changing in classrooms, which decisions only trustees and superintendents can make, and how to build staff confidence rather than dependence.

Questions Canadian board and division leaders are asking

  • How do we set a policy while the province is still deciding? Leading What Comes Next: a governance approach that stays current as provincial frameworks arrive.
  • How do we train staff when most have had none? Thinking With Machines gives every teacher one rule and examples to try the following week.
  • What do we tell trustees and families? A plain-language position the board can defend, built in the leadership session.
  • How do we keep student data safe? The data decisions only leaders can make, set out plainly.

Proof from North America

Dan's North American stages include FETC in Orlando, the NCCE conference in Seattle, the NCEA convention and the New York State School Boards Association convention. Dan is yet to keynote on a Canadian stage; he travels to Canada for keynotes and multi-day programmes and delivers live online keynotes timed for your time zone.
